India dominate Bangladesh in its First Day Night Cricket Test
India's first staging of a day and night cricket test
resulted in a great victory on and off the field.
Virat Kohli's team ended Bangladesh's rearguard resistance
in broad daylight to only 8.4 rebounds on the third day, sealing the victory by
one inning and 46 races on Sunday to ensure a 2-0 victory in the series.
Umesh Yadav took 5-43 and Ishant Sharma caught 4-55 for a
tour of nine wickets while Bangladesh was thrown for 195 runs in its second
inning.
India has been reluctant to play with a pink ball and under
lights in the traditional five-day format, but having crowds around 60,000 per
day for the first two days and fast players taking all but one of the 20
wickets can change that.
Eleven tests of men day and night were played before India
and Bangladesh played the first. It is very unlikely to be the last for any of
the teams. Australia hosted the first, beating New Zealand in Adelaide in 2015,
and is undefeated in its first five.
India had an emphatic victory for the first time, and broke
with tradition. The spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja only sent
seven envelopes in this test.
Ishant Sharma was chosen as the man of the match and man of
the series. He collected 12 wickets during two tests in Indore and Kolkata.
“They hunt as a pack and take pride in each other. We are an
experienced bowler and beauty lies in the speed with which they adapt to
different conditions, "said Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun.
Only Mushfiqur Rahim, 74, delayed India's relentless
momentum for a seventh consecutive victory in the national test.
He was the second man on Sunday afternoon, caught in Yadav's
bowling. Yadav realized that the three wickets fell on day three while India
concluded the proceedings easily.
Mahmudullah, who retired injured on Saturday due to a
hamstring injury, did not hit again.
Bangladesh made 106 in its first innings. Virat Kohli scored
136, for his 27th one hundred test, and then declared India's first innings at
347-9 for a 241 run lead.
High attendance at Eden Gardens showed that the concept was
a success. In addition, it has opened the doors for India to play with the pink
ball when they tour abroad, particularly in Australia, where they refused to
play a day and night test in 2018.
